What is an American Symbol?

American Symbols include:
the American flag
the national anthem
the official and unofficial mottos ('In God we trust')
the unofficial mottos (E Pluribus Unum — 'One from many. ')
the Great Seal of the United States
the White House
the Statue of Liberty
the Liberty Bell
the bald eagle.

Learning Objective:
Students will identify American symbols and know the people and events associated with them.
 
Directions: Choose one United States symbol. Write to answer the following questions:
 
Who?   The people or group of people associated with the symbol.
What?  Describe the symbol.
Where? The place where you can see the symbol.
When?  The date when the symbol was created or named.
Why?   The reason the symbol was created or named.
 
Include a picture of the symbol.
