Important Information
- The area was a desert where the Aqua Caliente Indian Tribe lived.
- In the 1870s the US Government claimed all the land and it was divided up into Sections which were 1-mile square.
- Alternating Sections of land were given to the Union Pacific railroad as an incentive to build the transcontinental railroad.
- In the 1950s sections of land was given back to the Agua Caliente Indians.
- Water comes from deep wells and from the Colorado River.
- Water conservation is important but not enough is being done to solve the over pumping problem.
